The computer platform of the biology department is in charge of the functioning of shared servers and the management of the internal network. It also manages the access control system of certain rooms.

The means:

Several central servers are used to match the shared needs of the department in computer. This choice of dividing up the charge allow to optimize the global functioning in terms of performance and security. Currently these servers are :

computing servers or clusters dedicated to bioinformatics;
data servers (1 Po of drive space);
database servers (Postgresql, Mysql);
email servers dedicated to research and education;
web servers;
servers linked to network tasks;
accommodation servers for several teams of the department.

The networking of department hardware is realized by an ethernet network on brass support (10/100/1.000/10.000 base T) or on optical support (1.000/10.000 base SX or LX) and a WiFi network. The department local network is connected to the backbone of the ENS and is subdivided in several subnetworks (research networks, education network, guest network, ...).
